Birth flower for July 24
Mealy sage
Meaning: esteem
Its species name farinacea means "mealy," after the fine white hairs that make the stems and calyces look dusted with flour. It looks a lot like lavender at first glance, but its little flowers have two lips like other sages, and it smells different. Tough and heat-loving, it blooms from summer right into autumn, which makes it a favorite blue for flower beds.
