Birth flower for July 17
Flame lily
Meaning: Glory
Its wavy petals sweep sharply backward and upward, red edged with yellow, like a burning flame, and it is the national flower of Zimbabwe. The plant climbs by tendrils at its leaf tips. Every part contains colchicine, especially the tuber, and in Japan people have died after mistaking the tubers for edible yam.
