Birth flower for July 15
Coneflower
Meaning: strength and health
Echinacea comes from the Greek for 'hedgehog', after the spiky, cone-shaped center that gives it the name coneflower; its petals droop gently around it. Indigenous peoples of the North American plains used it as a medicinal herb long before it became today's popular herbal supplement. The cone is full of nectar and later seeds, so butterflies and small birds flock to it.
