Birth flower for June 19
Coral bells
Meaning: sparkle, a heart in love
Coral bells belong to the genus Heuchera, named after Johann Heinrich von Heucher, an eighteenth-century German physician and botanist. Wiry stems hold loose sprays of tiny bell-shaped flowers that hummingbirds visit in the wild. Breeders have since made hundreds of varieties with leaves in purple-black, silver and lime green, so today the foliage is often more famous than the flowers.
