Birth flower for June 2
Lavender
Meaning: Devotion, silence
The name lavender is often traced to the Latin lavare, "to wash", because Romans are said to have scented their baths and laundry with it. Its calming perfume comes from essential oils such as linalool, which is why it still turns up in soaps, perfumes and sachets everywhere. Today the purple fields of Furano in Hokkaido have made it one of summer's most photographed flowers.
