Birth flower for June 1
Gardenia
Meaning: Joy, secret love
Gardenia is beloved for its rich, creamy perfume, and its orange fruits have long been used as a natural yellow dye, even for coloring food. In Japan it is called kuchinashi, which sounds like "no mouth," because the ripe fruit never splits open. Legs of traditional Go boards are carved in the shape of this fruit, a quiet hint that onlookers should keep their comments to themselves.
