Meaning: a secret
Its Japanese name utsugi means "hollow tree," because the stems are hollow inside. It blooms in the fourth month of the old lunar calendar, called u-zuki, so it is also called unohana, and the classic school song Natsu wa Kinu sings of hedges full of it. In Japan, white crumbly okara tofu lees is also called unohana after this flower.
