Birth flower for May 11
Jacaranda
Meaning: Honour
In Japan the jacaranda is counted among the world's three great flowering trees, with the flamboyant and the African tulip tree. Pretoria in South Africa is nicknamed Jacaranda City for its lined streets, and students there say that if a blossom falls on your head during exam season, you will pass. Its clusters of blue-violet trumpets carpet the ground purple when they fall.
