Birth flower for April 20
Gerbera
Meaning: Cheerfulness
A gerbera looks like one big flower, but it is really hundreds of tiny florets packed together: petal-like ray florets around the rim and small disc florets in the center. It was found near Barberton in South Africa in the late 1800s, which is why it is also called the Barberton daisy. The genus honors German naturalist Traugott Gerber, and today it ranks among the world's most popular cut flowers.
