Birth flower for March 27
Cherry blossom
Meaning: Beauty of the moment
In Japan, hanami, or "flower viewing", almost always means cherry blossoms: friends picnic beneath the trees to welcome spring and to admire how quickly it passes. The most common variety, Somei-yoshino, was bred near Edo (Tokyo) in the late Edo period, and nearly all of them are grafted clones. Blooming all at once and falling just as fast, cherry blossoms are a symbol of the beauty of impermanence.
