Birth flower for March 26
Pasque flower
Meaning: asking for nothing
Pasque comes from an old French word for Easter, the time when it flowers. After the petals fall, the feathery seeds gather into a silvery tuft like an old man's white hair, which is why the Japanese call it okinagusa, the old man plant, and the Chinese name means white-haired old man. In Japan the native species has become endangered as grasslands disappear.
