Birth flower for March 23
African daisy
Meaning: lasting love, cheerfulness
Its name joins the Greek words for bone and seed, after its very hard seeds. The flowers are sensitive to light, folding their petals at night and on cloudy days to show striped purple undersides. A dark blue-purple center ringed with pollen-dusted anthers is the easiest way to tell it from an ordinary daisy.
