Birth flower for March 15
Calla lily
Meaning: magnificent beauty
The white trumpet is not a petal at all but a spathe, a leaf-like hood wrapped around the yellow spike in the middle, where the real tiny flowers grow. Every spring the calla fields of Zhuzihu on Yangmingshan in Taipei draw crowds who come to pick their own stems. In Japan its old name means Dutch calla, since Dutch traders brought it during the Edo period.
