Birth flower for March 10
Grape hyacinth
Meaning: A gentle heart
Grape hyacinth gets its name from its stacked spikes of tiny bead-like flowers, which look like miniature upside-down bunches of grapes. Its botanical name, Muscari, comes from the Greek word for musk, after the sweet scent of some species. At Keukenhof in the Netherlands, gardeners plant it in winding 'blue rivers' that flow between beds of tulips, one of spring's most photographed sights.
