Birth flower for February 27
Red silk cotton tree
Meaning: Cherish the happiness at hand
In early spring this tree drops all its leaves and covers its bare branches with big orange-red flowers, which fall whole when they finish. Its tall, upright shape earned it the name hero tree, and it is the city flower of both Guangzhou and Kaohsiung. When the fruit splits, seeds drift out on white silky fluff that was once used to stuff pillows.
