Otome is a classic Japanese camellia from the Edo period, its pale pink petals stacked in perfect rings in what is called a formal double. Its stamens have all turned into petals, so there is no visible center and it rarely sets seed; it has been passed down by cuttings and grafting for centuries. Otome means maiden, for its neat and gentle look.
