In Italy, men give women sprigs of mimosa on International Women's Day, March 8th, as a sign of respect and thanks. The florist's mimosa is actually an acacia, not the touch-me-not Mimosa whose leaves fold up. This silver-leaved species grows wild only in a small corner of New South Wales but is now planted around the world.
