Cyclamen
Meaning: shyness, modesty, sincere love
Cyclamen takes its name from the Greek for “circle”, a nod to its round tuber and to the flower stalks that coil into springs after blooming. The upswept petals look like a flock of butterflies about to take off. Its old English name, sowbread, comes from pigs rooting up the tubers. In Taiwan its Chinese name sounds like “the immortals are coming”, making it a favorite Lunar New Year pot plant.
