Birth flower for November 20
Zygopetalum
Meaning: graceful fragrance
The name joins the Greek for 'yoke' and 'petal', after the cushion at the base of the lip that seems to yoke the flower parts together. Green petals splashed with maroon, plus a white lip striped with violet, make an unusual color mix. The scent is strong and often compared to hyacinth, so one pot can perfume a whole room.
