Birth flower for November 17
Powder puff
Meaning: warmth, delight
The fluffy red ball of a powder puff is not made of petals at all but of hundreds of long stamens, white at the base and red at the tips, bunched together like a cosmetic puff. The plant is a legume, related to the sensitive plant and the silk tree, and its feathery leaflets fold up at night. Before they open, the round buds look a lot like raspberries.
