Birth flower for August 16
Blue water lily
Meaning: pure heart, trust
Unlike hardy water lilies, whose blooms float on the surface, tropical water lilies hold their flowers high above the water. The blue lotus of the Nile opens each morning and closes in the afternoon, so ancient Egyptians linked it with the sun and rebirth and painted it on temple and tomb walls. Petals of it were even found in Tutankhamun's tomb.
