Birth flower for May 15
Geranium
Meaning: comfort and true friendship
Most 'geraniums' on windowsills are really Pelargonium, a name from the Greek for stork, because the seed pods look like a stork's long beak. Brush the leaves and they release a scent — some varieties smell of rose or lemon, and rose geranium is distilled for essential oil. Across Europe, red geraniums are the classic window-box flower.
