Birth flower for May 13
Royal poinciana
Meaning: farewell, fond memories
The royal poinciana turns flame red in May and June, right at Taiwan's graduation season, so it has become a symbol of farewells and good wishes and appears in many graduation songs. It is the city flower of Tainan, which is nicknamed Phoenix City after the tree's Chinese name. Its finely divided leaves look like soft green feathers.
