Iris
Meaning: Good news, faith
Iris is named after the Greek goddess of the rainbow, a fitting name for a flower that comes in nearly every color. The fleur-de-lis, emblem of the French kings, is widely believed to be a stylized iris, and Van Gogh painted a famous canvas of them. In Japan, a classic poem in the Tales of Ise hides the word 'kakitsubata', a water iris, in the first syllable of each line.
