Birth flower for April 22

Lupine

Lupine

Meaning: imagination

Lupine comes from the Latin for "wolf," because people thought it greedily stripped the soil — in fact it does the opposite, fixing nitrogen and enriching the ground. In Taiwan it is famous as lubinghua, the title of Chung Chao-cheng's novel and a beloved film and song. Hakka tea farmers once planted it between tea bushes as green manure, and the story uses this humble, nourishing flower as a symbol for a gifted child.
