Orange blossom
Meaning: a bride's joy
When Queen Victoria married in 1840 she wore a wreath of orange blossom, and brides across the West followed. Citrus trees often carry flowers and fruit at once, so the blossom came to mean purity and fertility. Neroli, the oil from bitter orange flowers, is said to be named after a 17th-century Italian princess of Nerola who loved the scent.
