Meaning: anticipation
In early spring, before a single leaf appears, the bare stems are covered in four-petaled yellow bells, so a whole shrub looks like a yellow waterfall. The name honors William Forsyth, an eighteenth-century Scottish gardener. The dried fruit, lianqiao, is a common traditional Chinese medicine, and branches that touch the ground easily take root.
