Birth flower for January 28
Taiwan cherry
Meaning: Spiritual beauty, new beginnings
Taiwan cherry hangs its flowers like half-open bells, nodding downward instead of opening flat. It is the first cherry to bloom in Okinawa, and because it needs cold to flower, the cherry front there moves from the cooler north down to the south. Its plentiful nectar draws white-eyes that hang upside down to sip.
