Birth flower for January 3
Narcissus
Meaning: self-love and new beginnings
Narcissus is named after the youth of Greek myth who fell in love with his own reflection and became a flower that bows over the water. In China it is the “water fairy”, its bulbs grown in bowls of pebbles and water so their sweet perfume fills the house at Lunar New Year. Though now a classic of East Asian winters, it arrived long ago from the Mediterranean.
